I recently found the band Monument through random track streaming on Apple Music, feeling confused because it sounded just like Iron Maiden's earlier years, but the song was unfamiliar to me. Looking at the screen I saw it was Monument, but everything about it screamed Maiden, from the album cover featuring a dog mascot shared on their other covers to the vocal stylings in what seemed direct copying of Bruce Dickinson. Here is the song I stumbled upon:
I can also think of one more band who seem to really copy a legend, which is Gruesome, who have really copied the Leprosy and Spiritual Healing-era Death sound very carefully.
What do you guys think about bands that seem to blatantly copy the sound of established legends? I see some certain hate towards these bands in some pockets of the internet. Personally, I don't quite understand why. Monument seems to be a band continuing the thread of early Maiden, which to me is not a bad thing at all, since Maiden have since expanded their style and are unlikely to make albums more like those earlier ones anymore. Gruesome as well have given us great new songs in the style of a popular era of Death's discography, a sound which Chuck was likely to never to return to with the band. So personally, I love these kinds of bands. It feels to me like an extension of eras of great bands that we'll never get more of from the original legends.

Also, do any of you know any other bands who are such copies like Monument and Gruesome? I'm not talking about bands that are closely resembling, such as the comparison I used to see of the band Rude to early Pestilence, as they're not so perfectly similar. I am talking about bands that seemingly want to be exactly the same as their influences.

Off the top of my head, Finnish metallers AM I BLOOD did a pretty 1:1 Metallica worship (especially The Justice... era) on their 3rd full-length, The Truth Inside the Dying Sun (released in 2005).

Also, Australian thrashers HELLBRINGER do have a nice Hell Awaits era vibe on their second album, Awakened from the Abyss.

Lots of strong Sentenced's (R.I.P.) vibes on this CHARON's (R.I.P.) album... but then again, it's hardly so surprising either as they also came from Finland.
