Latest single for the upcoming The Ruins of Beverast album. Leans a lot more on Gothic influence than before, and I'm not entirely sure what to make of it

I'll be interested to hear this one as their early stuff has the Sargon Seal of Approval

Got the Ruins of Beverast promo. Sounds doom/death to me (my least favorite genre so it'll be a hard pass)

It was just sad.
Asphyx have a new one coming in January. The promo sounds really good, but it's "stream only", so won't be reviewing unless I buy the album.

Yeah, hear you. Personally I don't do streaming at all - mostly Bandcamp and some cds. And Vinyl of the favourites and/exceptional albums.
Tbh, these days it have to be damn good, before I bother even getting a cd. If a label and/or can't figure out bandcamp, there is zillion other bands with just as great music out there.
And I can't hear it all anyway, so it is actually almost helpful to get some releases sorted away from the outset.

I will stream old stuff that I've bought multiple times already but don't have on the particular device I'm using (pretty much everything is on my desktop for when I sit at my desk)
I won't review stream-only releases because I consider the downloaded promos my reward for listening and writing the review (in my view of reviewer morality, I review everything I download, though I've broken this rule a few times LOL). "Early access" and an expiring link don't do it for me. I'm not asking for a physical CD, just files I can put on an ipod or other device and listen to when there is no internet or years from now when the link has long expired

Especially Haulix. Streaming off a web site isn't practical. I listen to music while working, reading and walking (and, these days, painting), so I should at least be able to get the stuff off my Plex server. I'll sometimes make an exception for an independent band that contacts me directly, but they usually have their release on Spotify, which I can stream just about anywhere, so I can live with that. I have a backlog of several hundred albums, and that's just the past three years.

I have a backlog of several hundred albums, and that's just the past three years. I pay for spotify and buy from bandcamp but that is for simple convenience. Releases I am REALLY looking forward to I will preorder the vinyl if its not shipped from europe and the shipping is as much as the album. I guess its a good thing the Napalm USA doesnt have the selection that Napalm Germany has. It could get pretty pricey in a hurry. Seen more and more bands on bandcamp starting to offer vinyl which I absolutely love. Its how I got both Ironflame albums on vinyl. Now stuff for review is something else entirely. I have come back to this for a completely off the wall reason. My kids are not (for the most part) metal fans. They can appreciate stuff like Maiden or certain other super catchy songs but they will never actually seek it out on their own. That being said this last year was quite a reality check on just how fragile life really is. A couple years ago I had the idea of using my phone to "interview" my parents. Ended up being a 2 hour video of them talking about how they grew up and the amount things have changed. They wont be around forever (my mother almost died this summer if not for a life saving operation at the Mayo clinic) and having that video to share with my kids and their kids will be a look into the past. I asked my kids if there was one thing they think of when they think of me and all 4 of them said my love of music. My oldest said she had come to Metalcrypt to read some of my old reviews and listened to the album I was reviewing to see if she could hear what I hear simply by knowing me. From that discussion I had the idea of doing some more in depth reviews for the site as well as shorter ones that I have handwritten on my iPad. I will leave this all for my kids to have when I pass on and hopefully through that they can go back and remember me through the music I really cared about. Now that I have thoroughly depressed everyone, my work is done here...lol

Wish more old bands would do that. (yeah, know they probably do not have the rights, but still.)

Septagon have a new one coming out March 26th called We Only Die Once. Here's the lyric video for the first song
I'm not sold. This band killed it with their debut but they appear to be going in the wrong direction. Maybe the rest of the album will be better.
