Helloween- Helloween (2021) Some may say it is too long, I don’t agree.
Temple of Dread- Hades Unleashed (2021) Prior to this release I never heard of the band. It’s not outstanding, but it’s solid Death Metal that sometimes reminds of the good ole- Floridian bands like Death and Massacre. A fun listen that doesn’t feature anything new but sounds good.
Blacksword- Alive Again (2021) That title track is ballsy and epic! Great album, I only knew it because it was reviewed here, so thanks! Love this vocalist and all the guitarwork.
Ocultum- Residue (2019) A Stoner doom band I got my curiosity up for, for some reason. Perhaps it’s that cool album cover. If they had used a clean, bluesy Ozzy style vocal, I think this would have been a really fun album. As it stands, it’s just really nice bluesy riffs that overstay their welcome through too much repetition and bizarrely unfitting vocals that blur the lines between black and death metal vocals. Not gonna listen to this one again. No patience.
Nanowar of Steel- Italian Folk Metal (2021) Just found this band by accident the other day because I was watching the Gloryhammer music videos and discovered that the singer of Gloryhammer was featured in a Nanowar music video in character as Angus McFife. The music video was so bizarre and humorous I had to pursue more Nanowar. There are a few really excellent folk metal songs here with super catchy choruses, and then snippets of parody plays on popular songs hidden throughout. A fun band, but not for serious listening.

Argesh-Excommunica This feels like the kind of thing I'd call ambitious, but with so many bands doing this Deathspell-Omega-mixed-with-blank style it comes off more as standard than anything.
Winter-Into Darkness Influential this may be, it's kind of a bore.

Between the Buried and Me- Colors II I have a feeling real metal fans have a hard time accepting a band like BTBAM, especially with their close association with metalcore. However, I strongly believe this is a band that should be accepted by all metal fans. I’ve followed them off and on since their second album, and they’ve now released quite a lot, with Colors being probably their peak. So I’m pretty excited to be listening to what may be in their eyes a sequel based on the title. That being said, this one is much more mature than the original Colors, which is a little bit disappointing since they pretty much put everything out there on the first Colors album with passion and overwhelming skill. This one just ends up feeling less exciting, but is still quite a good record. Alaska and Colors will probably always be my favorite albums in the end. The Great Misdirect was a very fun record as well.
Alchemy of Flesh- Ageless Abominations The cool looking cover art pulled me in. Finding out it was a one man death metal band from the middle of nowhere Georgia state, I lowered my expectations. Actually, this is really cool death metal that hugely borrows from mid era Morbid Angel with that chunky texture and riff structure. To my memory there is not a single guitar solo on this, which feels like a hugely missed opportunity to enhance the sick energy that drives this bad boy. Still, an enjoyable listen.

Wolves in the Throne Room- Primordial Arcana So...I never ever checked out this band before, despite their prolific career. I think them being Black Metal during a time that I was losing interest in the subgenre definitely had something to do with my avoidance of them. But now I'm back to embracing BM, and I must say, this album is surprisingly pleasant to listen to. I generally prefer Black Metal less atmospheric and more intense, like what Funeral Mist did with their Hekatomb album (still probably my favorite BM album to date), but this one is just really cool. Lots of different elements are combined together for this album. There was even a moment I was wondering if my Apple Music had shuffled me over to a Moonsorrow track...haha! Definitely a big release this month, and one I'll likely spend time revisiting.

Drifter-The Demos: 1985 and 1986 Kind of like if Brocas Helm violently swayed between Thrash and Led Zeppelin while on a bender, except these guys were tighter players. Second demo is more Thrash, but both bits are cool relics of the time.

The new Hooded Menace album is AWESOME...!!! 100% agreed! Even the WASP cover is great! I love when I have high expectations for a new one and the band crushes it!

Lord Vicar- The Black Powder (2019) I listened to this one the other day only because I had put it on a list of albums to check out a long time ago after seeing extremely positive feedback for the album in various corners of the internet. Surprised it doesn't have a review on our site yet! I have even seen a few posts claiming this to be the greatest Doom Metal album of the 2010's. This Finnish band's album here went in one ear and out the other on first listen. But here I am listening on the second time, and it is a completely different experience suddenly. I can't believe how excellent this is. And it's not like anything about it is out-of-this-world outstanding. The vocals are far from beautiful or even powerful, the riffs are frequently simple and punky at times, and the drumming doesn't really go out of the way either. But there is just something purely magical about the combination of everything here. The lyrics are pure Doom, the sense of conviction and dedication to the style is genuine. And some of those riffs are guaranteed ear-worms. It ventures into Sabbathian territory, but also borrows a pinch from punk and other various Doom variations. Vocalist is an ex vocalist of Saint Vitus, also worth mentioning. If you've got an itch for a quality Doom Metal album, this will do it, provided you give it more than one spin.
Also: Hooded Menace- The Tritonus Bell (2021) Damn...it's just so good. Death Doom done right. Love this band.

Evoking Winds-Towards Homestead One of those personal projects that released one album way back in 2008 that's getting rereleased for some reason. Way more atmospheric than Metal going on here, but it's decent mood music at least.

Lord Vicar- The Black Powder (2019)
Lord Vicar are a very good band indeed - but somehow I can't help feeling they peaked with their debut, at least that is the album I keep returning to.
Admittedly I have not really heard The Black Powder much, perhaps I should do something about that.

Am currently on the an "album crush", you know when you get infatuated with an album and listens it almost to death?
Anyway Shadowspawn: Biology of Disbelief, just presses all my buttons. Must have heard it 20 times the last couple of weeks. And went to a show with them too last weekend (they are local) and got t-shirts, patch and the Vinyl.

Iron Maiden - Senjutsu
Only a couple listens so far, but the production could be better and some songs could definitely be shorter. But overall, I think I like it. I'll probably need to listen to it several more times before I can settle on a more permanent opinion, but so far at least the album is not putting me off immediately.
