Nervosa-Perpetual Chaos Bloodletter-Funeral Hymns Asphyx-Necrocerus White Stones-Kuarahy Gaerea-Limbo
For those that know me that last one may be a bit of a surprise as I have never been a big black metal guy but damn if that album doesnt just suck you in.

Mi'guass- Open Season
Got these from Night Rhythm Records a bit back, the latter of which was a freebie they tossed in. The first is solid melodic Black Metal about Bloodborne, the latter is badass Death Metal from the 2000s about Native American folklore and warfare that was unjustly overlooked when it first came out.

It was weird...the first two songs I was like "ok, this is good but really not my thing." middle of the album "damn, this is REALLY good." and finally by the end "holy shit, am I actually a black metal fan now?'. Have listened to it at least 2 or 3 times a week since I discovered it a couple months ago. Just seemed like the perfect album for 2020. Just so much going on...

Still on my unexpected black metal trip, with some deviations from the course.
Marduk- Viktoria Being that it came out around the same time as Funeral Mist's album with the same vocalist, comparisons were quite a big deal, and everyone just about all agreed that the Funeral Mist album was superior to this one. Well, I also think so, but this is a very good black metal album nonetheless. Being that I would currently give Funeral Mist's album a 4.5/5, I think this album is looking at a 4/5 from me to represent my placement of value in it. It has some very cool qualities, and I love the short run time of only 33 minutes for the whole album. That's what I always loved about Marduk. They could have shorter black metal songs that just kick you in the gut and move on.
Funeral Mist- Hekatomb Yeah, I posted this one last time I wrote. I'm still listening to it. Wanted to say that this album grows on me a lot with every listen. And recently I find myself only wanting to listen to this record. It's fantastic. And for anyone who doesn't know it but would like to understand why I value it so highly, go check out the slow track, "Metamorphosis." The sense of space in their sound here is phenomenal. I love how this band achieves such a sense of atmosphere without going to great lengths to make atmospheric black metal. Instead, this is a very organic sense of atmosphere, not just a bunch of synths and all to cut the edginess out of the black metal. So good!
Ironsword- Overlords of Chaos I'm so glad I went back to hear this one after listening to the newest album quite a lot in 2020. Overlords of Chaos was an album that was my first taste of the band. I was turned off by the vocals, but liked the songs. I just didn't listen to the album more than twice before shelving it for some reason. The new album got me really excited about the band, and today I revisited Overlords and wow! That's a great record! I might even like the songs here more than on the new album! Also, fun fact: I work with a guy who is from Portugal. He doesn't like metal at all, but he asked me what I was listening to recently (not knowing what I like) and I showed him the new Ironsword album, and I was like, "Oh yeah, these guys are from Portugal." He thought about it for half a minute, and then he said, "Oh, the singer was also the singer from Moonspell. He's super famous in Portugal, and a really smart individual who is on the TV a lot." I thought that was really cool, even non-metal fans like and know the band in a way, it seems.

This is another album that sucked me in this year. Ended up going back in their catalogue and all their albums are really damn good. Granted there are only 2 others beside this one but all of them share the same quality songwriting. Absolutely brilliant with a very good set of headphones.

Cernunnos - Abnoba Mons (sounded like something that would fit my mood, based on Sargon's review)

Inquisition- Obscure Verses for the Multiverse I really like this band a lot. This album reminds of their 2016 and 2020 releases, but feels less fully-realized to me, if that makes any sense. Regardless, it’s a great record.
Deathspell Omega- The Furnaces of Palingenesia My first venture into Deathspell, and I couldn’t say I’m disappointed at all. Love the energy here. Experimental elements are hit and miss for me, but their base sound is rather solid.

If im suggesting checking out a black metal it may not be good but at the very least it will be different. Stumbled across this on youtube and fuck me is it good. I may be late to the party on this band (its black metal so I likely am...lol). There is so much going on here...atmospheric black metal with a some doom metal, progressive metal even at times wandering into almost prog rock territory. check it out... youtu.be/l878SoA1QGUYoth Iria - As the Flame Withers

I have some albums that are probably promos that slipped through the cracks (got a few hundreds of those - haha) Deathspell Omega is hit or miss (assuming I'm not mixing them up with some other French band). Black Knight - Tales from the Darkside Aria - Blood for Blood Sandstorm - Desert Warrior Maudiir - Le temps peste

The flirtation with major keys for moments along with the melodic sensibilities make Inquisition a very different band, along with more frequently slower songs. And if you’re like me, one listen to an Inquisition record won’t sell you on it. Needs a few spins. But after that, it’s clear why they’re so well-received.
