Bone Church. Their second album, which released this year, is my 3rd favorite album of the year. This is some heavy metal in the vein of the early Black Sabbath records, bluesy and riff-heavy. Only 6 tracks, but they clock in at 40 minutes total. Couldn't find a single song, but here's the album for you guys to skip around on to get a feel for their sound. They FINALLY have a review on metal-archives, but their existence seems very under the radar.

Finland's XYSMA recorded this fine death 'n' roll album back in 1991. "Yeah (no pun intended)", it's a great debut from them, and I believe that the new generation of metal heads is hardly aware of this record, so it belongs to this threat just about perfectly.

Here's one more from my top albums list that I feel did not get talked about much, including I recall no discussion about it on the Metal Crypt!
King Witch: This year they released their second full length, called Body of Light. It is my 4th favorite album of 2020. This is more of that doom metal meets bluesy Sabbath stuff, much like Bone Church, the band I also posted here. But this one feels totally different, with much slower paced songs overall. And the other difference here is the vocalist is a woman, which I often don't like in my metal. However, she possesses a type of power and energy that fits perfectly with the music. She does this mix of Candlemass vibrato-heavy and thick vocals with a bluesy touch. She is in fact one of the best features of the band. Also, the guitar work on this album is just badass! Try getting to 4:20 on this song here and if you don't start banging your head, you might need to check your pulse. I love that tempo change, and it is a taste of the fun twists this band provides. In addition, the last chorus on this song features an incredible and powerful vocal moment where you think she has reached her highest range and intensity, but then she goes even further. Really amazing record here.

I felt your comments firmly align with my view of the album. Also cool that you linked her style to Candlemass like I did.

More just new, than actually obscure, Morgul Blade is a very promising epic metal newcomer. Really like their ep, and eagerly anticipate a future full length.

Wrathblade. While the band do have two reviews up on this site, this album receiving a 5 rating from sargon (and for damn good reason!), I don’t think they don’t belong here in this thread. The name Wrathblade hardly appears in my sites and networks, and yet they really did put out some of the most impressive and memorable epic heavy metal I’ve ever heard. When I think of Eternal Champion, I recall a vocalist whose approach makes me wonder if he has ever heard of a thing called vibrato. Well, Wrathblade’s vocalist also lacks vibrato, but in contrast has a more commanding approach with his vocals which I greatly favor over that of Eternal Champion’s. And with his Greek accent, his vocals are even more interesting to me. I have no clear memory how I came to find this band some years ago, as it actually wasn’t from Sargon’s review, but I purchased this on Bandcamp as fast as I could, and I only wish I could have a physical copy now to thumb through the booklet. If you’ve not heard this band, let alone this outstanding album of epic heavy metal, I highly recommend this album. Perhaps doomyguy would like this one, if you’ve not heard it yet. Below is the album closer, and my first track to expose me to this band.

Ha ha, funnily enough, I had this in my bandcamp wishlist for the longest time, where it languished forgotten under the onslaught of new releases - before digging it up at a BC Friday this autumn.
And promptly kicking myself, for not getting it sooner.
I agree, it is pretty good

Vendel - young russian REALLY promising old school epic metal band.
Think they have only released 3 original songs so far, but they are all good.

So, recently learned that River Cuomos (here known as Peter Kitts) was in a Metal band called Avant Garde in the 80s. I also learned that they were quite good.

Recent discovery thanks to a freebie from an order. Mi'Guauss were heavily melodic Death Metal all about Native American folklore and warfare, and holy fuck how did anyone let something this great slip by unnoticed? migauss.bandcamp.com/album/open-season

Not really sure how "unknown" this band really is but they were new to me when I first heard them and they are still unsigned. HOW they are unsigned is beyond me. Musicianship and songwriting are better than some bands that have been around a LOT longer. This is the best song from the album but the whole album is brilliant. That bridge before the chorus is just instantly memorable...this is a song that just demands to be played loud.
