There's a ton of great cover songs done by Metal bands, both covering non-metal songs and covering other Metal songs. Might be fun to share the ones we come across that we enjoy. I'd start with one of my all-time favorites. I love Nancy Sinatra's famous song, and I think Megadeth did a fantastic cover which totally captured the right attitude for the song. I love that part before the guitar solo at the end where Dave asks, "Are you ready, boots?" www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKYYiYcr21Q

Laaz Rockit's cover of "Holiday in Cambodia" is a personal favorite cover, as it injects it with an energy the original was oddly lacking in:

... and, this song below, is the kind of a song I am always expecting Priest to play live...
The original version (Joan Baez's) of the song below, which sounds also great to my old, nostalgia-adoring ears...

I was surprised to hear, years ago, Sodom doing a cover of Bryan Adams' "Kids Wanna Rock" (I'm a big fan of his stuff up to and including Waking Up the Neighbours in 1991)

When they decide to rock they are actually alright, they have a decent guitarist, that let it rip a few times. But that is the exception, most of the time it is ballad & love songs, witch is a little boring.

Impalers did a great cover of Napalm in the Morning. Very close to prefering this to the original.

After that he switched to mostly ballads and love songs instead of good catchy rockers (though his ballads on the 83-91 albums were really good). Never seen him in concert, and I wouldn't go now because I'd have to sit through too much stuff I don't like. I've heard another Sodom cover that I'm trying to locate. Can't remember what artist/song it was.

I always liked Arjen Lucassen's version of Pink Floyd's Welcome to the Machine
Another cool one is Tarot doing Mama:
Mystic Prophecy's version of Patti Smith's Because the Night is excellent, too:
But I don't know. There are too many.

Okay this one comes with a question, as I'm struggling to figure out what other version there is that I had in my head.
Firstly, here's a REALLY solid cover of Bathory's song, "Sacrifice."
Now, the thing is, I actually did not know this was a Bathory song, even though I did indeed have Bathory's first album. I just happen to recall that I had heard a different band play this song first, and it wasn't Tsjuder. Does anyone know any other covers? I was digging through my phone and couldn't find the other one I had in my head, but it was a damn good song. I thought it was by Overkill, but when digging through my Overkill discography (the good albums, of course) I didn't find it, so maybe I had a false memory. Then I started to think maybe it was Venom who covered it, but I also couldn't find it there. Regardless, the other cover of Sacrifice was a really good one as well, and I hope to locate that again.

And I found the ‘Sacrifice’ cover I was looking for. A damn fine cover by Death Breath. Wow, I’d love for this band to release a new record. Also, it’s funny that I was thinking of Overkill and Venom doing this cover before, but I would imagine if those bands did a cover of that song it would be awesome.

What about cover albums? Pro-Pain did an incredible album of cover songs called "Run for Cover". Even doing the Bohse Onkelz song in german. Couple years ago Mystic Prophecy did a cover album called Monuments Uncovered that was actually really good. Far and away though the best is a punk band named Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. They are all in other bands but get together every so often and record an entire album of cover songs focusing on a certain genre but all done punk style. They are all pretty damn good but their album "love their country" stands out. Their version of a Dixie Chicks song is insanely catchy. youtu.be/QqIYRxENy_M
