Bandcamp Friday, so threw some $$ at random epic metal bands
Saber - Without Warning (cassette) Morgul Blade - Harbingers of Power and the Word's End (digital) Grey Wolf - Cimmerian Hordes (digital) Knight's Oath - Knight's Oath (digital)
That Knight's Oat demo/ep (?) is great - very promising.
Really hope they will make a full length in this style at some point.

I haven't dug into it yet but it definitely has promise, so agreed

Not that many bands, that I am properly fan-boyish about, but Doomsword is certainly one of them.
Thus their recent vinyl re-release crusade is a true "shut up and take my money" situation for me.
Their demo arrived today. Nice little release with a booklet detailing the formation of the band.
Only one "song" (short atmospheric piece) that are not also on the debut and the known stuff of course sounds better in the later editions.
But who fucking cares - this is the Doomsword demo(!!) on vinyl and I am stoked to have it.

Was one of my picks of the week of releases from last week. Overall my pick went to Spartan - Of Kings and Gods as it just very slightly beat out Maule. If you dig that one give Eliminator - Ancient Light a listen. I think the vocals on Maule are superior but the music is excellent on both.

Thank you for the reccs. I had actually stumbled upon Eliminator also - but their £1000 BC download price made it less attractive. I get that it is the label that do not understand where metal is thriving in the 2020s - but ultimately it is the band choosing which label to be on. And with more great bands, than I will ever have time to check out, antics like this makes it an easy pass for me.

I still buy way more than I should but making the decision on what to buy is a lot easier spending $10 a month for spotify. I know there are strong opinions on both sides of how little artists get paid on the service but I kind of view as tape trading for the new age. According to my CC statements of last year I spent a little over $5k on music last year (including shows and merch) and the vast majority of that is using streaming services to discover new bands. My album of the year last year was Yoth Iria which I discovered via Spotify. I definitely helps me create my best metal releases of the week lists every Monday...

Yeah, not really keen on streaming though. Bandcamp is working very well for me and I discover a lot of new bands through the weekly email.

Can't say that Maule album did much for me
I get Amazon Music as part of Prime so I'll stream stuff that is out to see if I like it before I buy it once in a while. Bandcamp is a great place to find new stuff and I definitely try to grab something physical from unsigned bands when I can. Spotify makes me crazy and brings out the "get off my lawn, you kids!" old man in me, which to be fair is not all that far below the surface most days.

BC Friday haul; a mix of new epic/heavy metal and death metal:
Blood Red Throne: BloodRedThrone Mace'n'Chain: Upon the Anvil Formed Knight's Oath: II Knight & Gallow: Men of the West Reflection: Bleed Babylon Bleed Wombbath: Agma
That Mace'n'Chain ep is REALLY promising - would love to hear a full length from them.

Agreed on Macy'n'Chain. Can't say the new Knight's Oath did anything for me. Too bad, the first one was quite good.

Visiting the new city, accidentally ended up in a record store (“accidentally” meaning that I entered the name of the store in Google Maps and followed the directions).
