I may have found a local metalhead here in Shanghai at the Hongqiao Train Station as I found the odd Metal shirt amidst the masses for the first time. He was wearing a Brotherhood of the Snake album Testament shirt. Surely this guy is a Metal fan! Would have loved to catch him and talk but who knows how far that would go, as my Chinese is only half as good as I need to have a deep conversation with people here. Anyway, a cool find, as the only other time in the last 3 years I saw evidence of Metal was in 2019 when I rode up the elevator in my apartment building in Kunshan (work apartment) with a local wearing a Cannibal Corpse shirt.

I was mindlessly browsing through some reviews on here, and I noticed something kind of odd in one I wrote for that Kade Storm release a few weeks back Like, it might be bots or something, but assuming it is really a ton of people giving the album votes, where the hell did they come from? Glad they liked it and all, but still.

I’m used to seeing around 1-3 or so votes on a record but that one quickly had over 10 if I remember right. I just wonder where those came from.

So, found out Midnight from Crimson Glory made a piano cover of "Painted Skies" with Jon Olivia a few years before his death. This is one of those things I never figured I'd need, and yet...

A few weeks ago a slipped into my new side-role gig as the new conductor of the New Shanghai Orchestra. My first gig as a conductor and not a violinist. Nonetheless, they were pleased and I’m now the long term conductor going forward. What shocked me the most was the payment at the end of the gig. I was expecting around 10,000RMB, but they paid me way way more than that! So I decided it was time for me to get myself something nice.
Got myself my first noise canceling, bluetooth earbuds, the new AirPods Pro. My listening time went up a lot, now I can actually hear my music while walking around, and not road noise all the time! It’s fascinating for me. And it manifests in me forgetting I’m in public and headbanging I’m the Shanghai subway. Lol

It would have been nice if they had linked to your review AND mentioned your name as the author alongside the site’s name (well, sort of the site’s name…) Still pretty cool.

My intuition tells me that they just searched for reviews, clicked the first one that seemed legitimate, and copy/pasted without much thought. I'm not even particularly mad, just kind of perplexed. Like, why not just write an actual description and crib quotes? Is that too much work?

It is indeed weird that they would use a review as a description. From time to time I'll see quotes from reviews or links to some, but not the review as an actual description. Maybe they thought the review was the most accurate description?

metalmike gave me a good laugh this morning as I read the opening lines of his review for Rhapsody of Fire’s new one. At first you got me, too! I thought for a moment they’d actually changed their sound! When you stop regularly checking in with a band that never changes their sound, it’s easy to fall for it, I suppose. Haha

Ugh, my Chiefs lost. Lame Super Bowl. Trying to be happy for the Bengals but nope, not happy. Hope the Rams can beat them at the big game.
Any football (American) fans here?
