Over the past 3 weeks, I interviewed 150+ musicians for this new series called "Soundtracks of My Youth". In a nutshell, I basically asked what bands and/or albums were there for them when they were just kids/teenagers that eventually led them to form their own bands some years later... Without any further ado, here's the link below for the first series of this article... Enjoy! www.metalcrypt.com/pages/features.php?featureid=56Stay tuned for 7 more series at least in the coming weeks...

So that's why you've been quiet lately. Hell of an undertaking, well done.

So that's why you've been quiet lately. Hell of an undertaking, well done. Thanks for the kind words... appreciated! Yes, it's actually been quite a bit of work to get all this shit together for these series, I can tell. Sending out reminders for bands to meet the deadline, wasn't the nicest thing to do either...

Free spoiler: Pt. 2 will feature contributions from such musicians as Vincent Crowley of Vincent Crowley Band, Admiral Nobeard of Swashbuckle, Bobby Franklin of Medieval Steel, Kristian Havard of Xentrix, Freddy of Necronomicon, Martin Missy of Protector, Ralf W. Garcia and V.O. Pulver of Poltergeist, Joe of Evil Invaders, Vladimir Korg of The Mist, Howard H Smith of Acid Reign among others.... If I counted correctly at all, as many as 155 musicians contributed this "Soundtracks of My Youth" series all in all. There will be seven more series to come, so stay tuned for all of them!

I have to say it’s a really cool article and idea. I enjoyed part 1 quite a bit! Funny to see that I had to discover those albums many people listed which were known classics of the 80s and earlier on my own later in life. Some people really grew up with some of the best stuff as their primary influences. Boy I sure didn’t. I remember Fear Factory, Linkin Park, Dave Matthew’s Band, some boring grunge band, and an early Thursday album were my first albums I listened to.

Being 13 in 1980, armed with Back in Black, Led Zeppelin II, We Sold Our Souls for Rock and Roll and Destroyer and looking for more was a great time to be a beginning metalhead

Now that MUST have been painful... Yeah, not a great start. I still revisit the Fear Factory album from time to time. Some nostalgia attachment there, but it's not actually a great album.
