Went to the Festivale Messe des Morts in Montreal Thursday and Friday. My friend worked on the show so I went in the backdoor with him haha, always nice when that happens. It was in a old church turned into a venue, I thought it fits perfectly for some black metal. And the icing on the cake was it was a 5 minutes walk from my house haha and if I'd still lived in my condo it would have been a 30 secondes walk!!!
Thursday
Orphique November Grief Grenadier Panzerfaust Regarde les Homme Tomber
Panzerfaust and RLHT were the highlight for that night.
Friday
Eos Sorguinazia Ifernach Sarkrista Azarath Sacrementum PRIMORDIAL!!!!!!!
Azarath were good, Sacrementum were awesome but a little long set, I have bored at the end.
Primordial stole the whole day and probably the whole festival. I'd never thought I'd see The Coffin Ships live and in my neighborhood too. Alan really gave a perfect performance, he grabbed people that were bodysurfing near the stage and he chokehold them for like 20 secondes before pushing them back on the crowd. You can really hear his pain for his country. On a side note, he drank a full bottle of wine and 4 500ml cans of beer and my friend who was backstage said he went and do 4 lines of powder between songs. I'm not complaining because he really gives a great performance so maybe he needs that!
Saturday
Catacombs Unrequited Arctos Hell Militia Nordjevel Harakiri For the Sky Carpathian Forest
Didn't went Saturday night, was too tired of all my work week and I worked Saturday morning so didn't sleep alot Friday night. That's a bummer

Exhumed/Vitriol/Escuela Grind/Castrator
Castrator killed, Escuela Grind was too grind/hardcore for my taste but fun to watch, Vitriol was so loud their set was nothing more than painful white noise and Exhumed was solid with a great show considering it was a smallish club. If you check out an upcoming date of this tour do not miss Castrator.

Lots of bands I don't know (or only know by name) at Messe des Morts. I would have loved to see Carpathian Forest. I could have sequestered them until they promised to release a new album soon.

Hi guys!! I finally rejoined after 4 years of absence!! I too went to see Midnight, Kreator and Mercyful Fate at Place Bell in Laval. It would have been way better in a smaller venue. I don't think there was more than 3000 people (Epica and Sabaton 2 weeks earlier at the same place was jam-packed at least 5000 with no assign seats on the floor). I hate it at Place Bell, you only have to pay credit no cash not only at the Merch tables but for food and beer too. And since Place Bell takes a cut on merch sales because it's their employees that run the tables, buying a shirt at 65$is way too expansive. I was on the floor but with seats... I don't know why they put seats on the floors at metal shows. On to the show, Midnight killed it like Mike said. For 3 guys only they give quite a show. Kreator, don't know them except the name, I didn't find them to be awesome just good thrash nothing more. Mercyful Fate was awesome but quite short. Same thing when I saw King Diamond in 2019, short and sweet he played for 1h15. Overall, a nice evening with some great music! Welcome back! I knew the name rang a bell. I think they were expecting more people at that show, especially with it being the only Canadian date. Lots of people from outside the Montreal area. I've seen assigned seats on the floor at (then) Molson Centre and at the Colisée in Québec City. When I saw Maiden three nights in a row in 2000, I had a floor seat at both venues. I don't think I've seen that again since, but I'm not sure. I was surprised because it said "General Admission" for the floor, so I really wasn't expecting to see seats down there (most likely the reaction of a lot of people who had those tickets). Metal show or not, I don't think people who buy floor tickets expect to see seats there - at least not for anything that "rocks." By the way, it's pretty fucking dumb to have "Centre Bell" in Montreal and "Place Bell" just over in Laval, minutes away. The first time I saw mention of a show at "Place Bell", I thought it was just a mistake in the poster. A friend told me later about the place. Imagine you're from out of town, stay at a place near Centre Bell and head there, only to find out the fucking show is in Laval. Anyway, it's a nice venue. I liked being able to park underground and not have to go outside since it was raining. I saw some people walk in drenched from the rain. That makes for an uncomfortable evening. The credit (or debit) card thing didn't bother me at all, in fact I like it better than having to withdraw large amounts of cash in case I find a lot of merch I like. But yeah, them taking their cut surely inflated the merch prices, though I'd like to know exactly to what extent. When I saw Maiden in 2019 it was Centre Bell staff selling merch and I remember thinking that was probably why the t-shirts were more expensive than usual. I don't know if they have a backup plan though. Remember in July when Rogers went down for about a day and lots of credit card terminals and most/all debit transactions didn't work... "Just good thrash nothing more" - you need an education.

My friend told me Carpathian Forest were excellent, alot of people were there for them even though they haven't release anything since 2006. And backstage they were fun people to hang around, no ego nothing like that.

A friend of mine went and posted on Facebook about it and there's a bunch of people commenting that seeing them live is a bucket list item. I would have gone, but getting into the MdM ticket craze wasn't my cup of tea, plus with it being so late in November, at the time the tickets went on sale, who knows if covid wouldn't have played party-pooper again. I might go to Reanimator and Metalian (and one or two other bands) at Foufs this Saturday, it'll be a last-minute decision. I stayed at BestWestern so often this year that I can get a room for free.

Hi guys, it's been a while. Been to a lot of shows the past couple of months with a few festivals included. Listing those I remember here:
Enslaved x3 Mercyful Fate Emperor Mayhem Iron Maiden Dark Funeral Sodom MGLA Ensiferum Finntroll Brymir Kampfar Year of the Goat Satan Lucifer Unto Others Tribulation x2 Abbath Death to All Opeth x2 Primordial Swallow the Sun Gaahl's Wyrd x2 1349 Candlemass Whoredom Rife Misthyrming
The Fate show was fucking sick except when they played a new song and nobody wanted to hear it. Other than that MGLA are unbelievably tight, and I had no expectations for Sodom live but they killed. Gaahl's Wyrd was also something else. Gaahl has got some serious stage presence. Candlemass played Nightfall in its entirety + Solitude (of course) and was great. Saw Enslaved, Emperor (w/ Faust) and Mayhem in Grieghallen where they recorded their early albums. Of these, Emperor were in a league of their own.

My last one, 22nd this year, was Exotoxic, Satanic, End of the Line and Chaos Wasteland on December 17th. All local bands doing a bar show not far from here. That was fun, despite walking through the remnants of a snowstorm.

Saw them in a mini festival in an alley in May '22, they really kill it live! Little question, how do you upload a clip on the board? I have a clip of them I wanted to share, tanx.

Saw Sword last night. I had seen them open for Anthrax back in August, but they only played about 25 minutes. This time they played about 90 minutes, covering a lot of material off their three albums. Much better stage size for them too. Last summer was the outdoor stage at the same venue and it's way too wide, whereas this one was way more suited for a show without a bunch of stuff on stage. It was obvious that the band was more comfortable performing in that setting.
The opener was Deraps, which is kind of an 80s hard rock style band, some Van Halen influences among others. They have good energy on stage, but I didnèt like the songs, nothing really caught my attention and it all sounded the same to me. They only played for 30 minutes, so minimal damage.
