Live music is coming back to some parts of the world so I thought I'd start this thread again.
Saw Nekromantheon and Evoke yesterday at a club here. No masks, no distancing, no nothing. Felt fucking great and Nekromantheon delivered!

The only one I've seen since January 2020 was Voïvod on July 9th. I was supposed to see Megadeth last weekend, but that got cancelled. Same for Judas Priest in early November.

Shame. Hopefully they will re-schedule. A nice string of shows coming up here now that all restrictions are lifted. Misthyrming, Batushka + Belphegor, Insomnium and Mayhem before Christmas. There is supposed to be an At the Gates show as well, but I haven't enjoyed, well, anything they have released the past ten years.

Saw Immortal Guardian at a show that was also supposed to have Paladin on the bill but their van broke down with transmission problems so they missed the gigs in Iowa. A few days later Seven Kingdoms played here. Usually dont get power metal here in the hometown of Slipknot so I had to support these guys when they were here. Both shows were excellent and seeing Immortal Guardians guitarist/Keyboardist play live was something else entirely. I had heard he plays both instruments at once but I figured it would be a trade off between the two or it would just be one song and be some sort of gimmick. It absolutely was not. He completely shreds on the guitar AND the keyboards at the exact same time. If you ever get a chance to see this live, it is a must see. 37 years of seeing live shows and I have never witnessed anything like that. Incredibally impressive.

Saw Baest last Saturday. They must be one of the best Danish live acts currently around and I had a great time. Sooo happy that this thrice postponed concert finally went ahead.

I wouldn’t have guessed that my first post-pandemic show would be Mayhem but there I was last night. Not the most exciting band on stage, really only Attila that moves around but definitely creepy. Midnight put on a nice set of black/thrash to get things started and Attila screamed “Pure Fucking Armageddon!!” at 10:30 and I was in the car heading home. Very considerate of them for this old metal fan

My next show is on April 1st, a Metallica tribute band playing not far from here. Hopefully they'll mostly do the old stuff.

Saw Judas Priest with Queensryche opening last night. Both were really good with awesome sets. Queensryche didn't play anything post-Empire. I had forgotten Casey Grillo had joined them as their drummer and he killed it. The highlight of the night though was probably Halford going all in on "Victim of Changes."

Are there really Metallica tribute bands out there doing mostly newer stuff?

I don't know. I saw one a couple of times 20-some years ago and the first time it was largely old stuff, but the last time there was some newer stuff and the guys was adding all those "yeah-ah-yeah" like Hetfield does, so I never went to see them again. I don't know this tribute band that I'm going to see, sooo... fingers crossed. Apparently they give one hell of a show, so there's hope. Saw an AC/DC tribute band last night. That was cool for the most part.

So last night I saw that Metallica tribute band, Metal Messiahs. They opened the hostilities with Creeping Death and mostly stuck to the first four albums, except for Enter Sandman and Wherever I May Roam from the black album and Fuel (from Load, I think...) The guys are really good and I enjoyed their set more than when I saw Metallica in 2004. The place was pretty packed. Not sure how many people they can fit, but I doubt there were many tickets left.
Next local shows are Voivod on June 1st (kicking off their North American tour) and Introtyl (all-female Mexican death metal; I saw them here in November 2018) on June 19th.

Metallica tribute bands are usually more fun than the real thing these days, glad for you that they played the old stuff.

I remembered today that they also played Sad but True from the black album, but that was when I went to the restroom. lol
