...we've reached 100 subscribers on the YouTube channel, which allowed me to pick a friendly URL rather than one that looks like a bunch of random characters.
The new URL is:https://www.youtube.com/TheMetalCrypt666
You can also just click on the YouTube icon when on the main site. They do not allow editing the part that says "TheMetalCrypt" and the name was already taken (grrrr), so I added 666. Because.
Maybe we should look into doing more with that channel.

I know some bands ask certain channels to host singles and such. Maybe we could look into doing that. Otherwise, all I can think of is doing video essays and interviews and junk, but that would require more video editing experience than I think any of us have to really turn into anything.

I think most of those channels have quite a lot of subscribers. Some sites host them directly, but being on a shared server I can't do that (I'm not keen on taking care of a VPS just yet...) I've been thinking about stuff like interviews for a while, but I don't know how hard that would be. I guess there's only one way to find out.

I too was thinking along the lines of video interviews for the channel. I think as long as we are well-prepared and ask good questions as opposed to the same old garbage questions you always see in many Youtube interviews, it could be good. I too know little or even nothing about video editing things. However, with programs like iMovie, I don't imagine too much difficulty. I liked mjolnir's idea about hosting singles or perhaps even albums in support of bands, much like the Black Metal Promotion channel I follow a lot. Noticed there's also a Death Metal Promotion channel doing similar work that I also now follow. It could also be cool if anyone of the staff would like to have a subgenre discussion or debate something together and upload it. Although BangerTV does a lot of mainstream stuff and all, I do notice that a lot of people get excited for their Lock Horns subgenre discussion forum videos. Occasionally from their channel I find something really good worth listening to. Then you've got channels like Thralls of Metal. Those guys aren't bad, but they really don't have any charisma and I find myself bored watching them. They don't play any audio samples of albums they're reviewing, and then that one dude posts hour long videos of his collection and shit that I couldn't care about. Anyway, just slinging thoughts into the void, but I do think interviews and the possibility of premiering stuff could be a fun channel idea. Additionally, a monthly segment where any of us could go through our best underground metal picks of the month and share with viewers could be a great thing.

video reviews or maybe something like I do on the blog about best metal releases of each week. Of course no where near as long as the list I make. Maybe just a top 5 of the week. I dont know enough about editing video to do it myself. I have thought about doing it as a tik tok with maybe 10-15 seconds of a song off of each album. Attention spans nowadays are VERY limited so the quicker the better.

I've discussed video reviews with Sargon in the past. Taming the video process was the big challenge. Lack of time sort of got in the way. I came across something the other day while watching a podcast and it may be helpful, but I haven't looked into it yet.

If you come up with something that makes it easy or at least easy to learn, hit me up. I will do whatever I can to help out. If nothing else I can recommend new music considering what I do for the blog...lol Got to admit the amount of music I have come across over the last 6-7 months of doing the blog that is new to me is shocking. I thought I was pretty "in the know" but damn there is a ton of great bands out that are mostly unknown. Perfect example is this week where I would have bet money my pick of the week was going to be the new Kreator album. It IS very good but I came across this band called Heart Attack and their new album Negative Sun. Fuck me running is this album good. A mix of Melodic Death Metal with Groove oriented Thrash Metal. The drumming is incredible and the solos are even better than the drumming. Finding new bands that blow you away makes the 80+ hours of listening to music every week so worth it.

I buy the fanzine "Slowly We Rot" out of Romania and, despite all the promos I get and the stuff reviewed by others here, I think 90-95% are bands I've never heard of. It's insane. I haven't had a chance to look more into that YouTube thing yet. It's on the list.

So, we're a year later. It took over 3 years to get to 100, but now we're at 178 and most of them subscribed in the past three months or so, ever since we started Luxi's "Inspirational Albums" series, plus I'm sure we got a few more from the live videos, especially the Nervosa one that's at more than 6000 views as I write these lines. Time to start looking more into this (time flies, except when at the office). Of course, I had to get a new computer back in March and, while I had three webcams (each of my three monitors had one), the new ones don't. A standalone one will probably do a better job anyway.

Now we are at 200 subscribers... I guess those live videos have also been a relatively big help for us to get some more recognition among some REAL metalheads.
