How are things "evolving" where you are? Still summer for most (all?) of us, but fall is lurking and that's largely been bad news since 2020, anno fuckthisshit.
Just got my fourth dose a little over a week ago, though that's not the one engineered to deal with Omicron.

Well, I caught COVID right after Tuska festival in July this year and was really sick for 3 days (having a very high fever and shit). So, I guess I consider that as my 4th dose of vaccine. Summer is over here in Finland at least (yesterday we still had a really hot day; today more than +10 Celsius chilling).

Well, most everyone where I am is acting like things are over when they fucking aren't, so that's great. Caught COVID a few weeks back visiting family, so that sucked, though the worst of it was just feeling dizzy and being gunked up. Don't think fourth doses are available where I am yet, but definitely gonna go get it because I'd rather not roll the dice again.

Might as well wait a little to see if you can get the shiny new one that also targets Omicron, especially since you have to wait roughly three months after having had covid before getting a shot (that may vary by jurisdiction, mind you...)

Being that the pandemic started over here in China, I’m really glad to say that I’ve still not caught it yet, but it still ruins the flow of things here quite a bit. Government decisions on the virus are strong, presenting quick action to the first discovered case in any area. Small lockdowns happen quickly. And of course, some of you may be aware of the recent long shutdown of the entire city of Shanghai. Around 2-3 months of lockdown killed the economy here. Now you can definitely feel there is a preference to not go through that again, as it not only ruined the economy but it also caused extreme lack of confidence in the government here among locals. So we’ll see how things go.
On one hand, I’m glad I never caught it, and I think the strict policies in place do actually protect us a lot. On the other hand, people are increasingly paranoid about future lockdowns and it’s not good for mental health. There are nearly 30 million people in Shanghai, so when economy isn’t good and there’s a lack of work and life, things get panicky really fast with extreme and quick food shortages and whatnot.
So China is a mixed bag with respect to the Covid situation. Many of the foreigners like myself living here are tired of extreme regulations. I guess to some degree I also share that feeling. But at the same time, also I’m appreciating the safety. Bottom line is that nothing is a perfect balance so we just have to accept the current situation here.

People here are antsy about further restrictions if things get nasty in the fall, and the restrictions were for the most part a walk in the park compared to what they did in China. Not easy.

I started feeling shitty and tested positive on 8/11 which was just a few days after the Incantation show on 8/7 (I was one of about 3 people wearing a mask at a show with about 200 people, though it was a cloth one which probably didn't do much). I have to say it was definitely a mild case, just a day of aches all over, a day of some tightness in my chest and a about a week of runny nose, itchy eyes, getting tired quickly, etc. If I hadn't tested, I would have thought it just a cold. No fever to speak of, no loss of smell/taste, etc. Unfortunately, the getting tired quickly and cough and hint of chest tightness is still hanging around. Guess some symptoms can do that. As soon as I'm eligible, maybe after the new year, I'll most likely get a booster or whatever it will be called once this is a yearly thing, like the flu vaccine.
As for the U.S., I think we all know that one chunk of the population is into vaccines, wearing masks and limiting travel, not gathering, etc. when there are outbreaks and another chunk that wants nothing to do with any type of mandates, restrictions, etc. There's also the group that still thinks it is a hoax, even though most have had it but don't let things like facts alter their opinions. In general, I think everyone is just plain sick of the whole thing and wants it to "go away" but sadly, I think that is unlikely at this point.

I was standing next to you most of the time without a mask, so one has to wonder if it was there. That's the frustrating thing, you can really known for sure (not that it would make much difference; you get it, you get it, wherever it came from). Tiredness for three days and symptoms of a mild cold were it for my back in May (I assume it was at the Destruction show in Montreal, but it could have been from somewhere else I was at around that time). I had some friends with me at the show and they were fine.
The Deicide/Kataklysm/Inhuman Condition show last night was very well attended, so I hope I'll be alright (especially with two shows the weekend of the 10th). I don't think I saw anyone with a mask.
