Grey Wolf: The Last Journey of An Old Viking on Bandcamp.
Read a review somewhere... this is right up my alley, even if the vocals are somewhat an acquired taste.

Bathory- Hammerheart This one took a moment to connect with me. I’ve listened through it 3 times. It wasn’t until the ending track “One Rode to Asa Bay” when I realized I had to play it again to get more out of it. It was epic in length at times but I didn’t always feel there was a payoff for the listening time I invested. Later on, it’s absolutely a grower. Do I like this as much as Blood Fire Death? Not quite. But it’s a great album.
Bathory- Twilight of the Gods Now this was an album I hadn’t heard yet. So far only two spins on this album but my feeling about it was somewhat different and overall better than that of Hammerheart. I haven’t yet made the right connections to feel that the epic “To Enter Your Mountain” has a payoff for its length, but I will continue listening. Overall, this album is way better than Hammerheart though, and I’m enjoying it thoroughly. As for the album closer, “Hammerheart,” yes, it’s a heartfelt ending. But it is a song where he wrote the text and set it to the music from the main big theme from Gustav Holst’s The Planets, the Jupiter movement. Being a violinist, I’ve performed that piece a few times, as well as a number of other songs using the exact same melody. The melody is one of the most famous ones written in classical music, and used for a very wide variety of things today. While it’s good here in this album, it’s nowhere as effective to me as it is for me to play or listen to the original in Jupiter. Still, it’s cool to see, and is now one of three instances where I’ve seen that Quorthon used/quoted classical music in his albums. Perhaps he was a classical music fan! If so, that makes this violinist a happy guy. Haha

Bathory- Requiem Uhh, this one is a surprise for me. I don’t know how the hell Quorthon could go from writing thrashy rippers on Blood Fire Death that rival Slayer’s better work and then later on make a decidedly thrash album that merely rivals ...Slayer’s worst work? Hmm, forgivable, given how much quality Bathory put out, but this one I won’t be returning to. There are much better thrash albums to hear.
Bathory- Blood on Ice This one was much better than I expected. The storytelling of the one eyed man was a little odd to me, but I like how it was tied together through the album. I wasn’t expecting much after Requiem, but this had some genuinely epic songs with some noteworthy moments of passionate energy with some serious payoffs for the listening time invested. Cool album.

Bathory- Destroyer of Worlds You know that feeling when you’re eating something familiar, but for some reason it’s not what it seemed? Like meat that suddenly tastes off and is impossible to chew up and swallow? Well, that’s this album. Ugh, I hate pushing the skip button, but there were a good four songs in the middle I could not take anymore of! This was a rough stop in the Bathory discography run. I’m happy to see the last two albums I’ll be visiting are better rated. I’m expecting to enjoy those a lot more.

If you're trying to go through them chronologically, you forgot Octagon. If this was intentional, then that was a wise decision.

Gruesome: Savage Land Death: Leprosy While working out. New to both bands, and had previously only listened in my headphones. Based on that I rated Gruesome as best, probably due to the way better sound.
But getting Death in my stereo (nothing fancy, entry level Dali speakers run through sonos), actually improved on the sound a lot. So now I just like both

I am aware, and while I intended on going through it, my decision to run through the discography was inspired by my entrance to the world of streaming with Apple Music. Sadly, Apple Music I’ve found is missing some albums from certain bands. Octagon is the only Bathory album missing on Apple Music. Perhaps it was a wise decision on Apple’s part? Hahaha

Primordial: Redemption at The Puritan's Hand
Should have seen them live for only the third time last spring. You know what ruined that. Gig postponed to this coming April.
Fuck-all chance that is going to happen either. Shame because they are one of the great live acts of our time. Oh well..

Solstice: Death's Crown is Victory.
This got to be one of the greatest comeback releases ever - as well as showing off how powerful the EP format can be when done right.

White Horse Hill is rapidly becoming one of my all-time favorite albums. I really hope we get to hear new music with the new singer. As much as I liked Paul Kearns, Hagthorn brings something different that I'd like to hear more of.

The Wiza'rd- Subterranean ExileI remember hearing their Follow the Wizard EP and liking it, but not enough to look into the rest of their output. Judging by this album, that was a mistake, because this is fucking awesome. I really need to get back to listening to this album. It was definitely intriguing for me, but I think I was in a huge Pagan Altar phase at the time when I heard this, and admittedly I don't think it stacks up to Mythical & Magical, the Pagan Altar album I was mostly listening to at the time. I remember thinking the style here was similar to PA. Great leads and riffs, vocals a little less exciting. But it is a grower.
