luxi In your latest-most published black metal review currently on the home page still, you alluded to other Finnish Black Metal bands that have been standouts as of late. Havukruunu are my favorite band in the style and have been for two years now. I’d love to know what other bands are in the Finnish Black Metal scene you’d recommend us (or at least me) to check out, as I can name a few bands but I bet a lot of bands you were hinting at are outside of my radar.

Havukruunu are, of course, great but check also out the following 3 Finnish Black Metal acts as for starters: VARGRAV (kinda early Emperor-styled Black Metal; they also have a new album in the works) WHITE RUNE (epic and slightly symphonic Black Metal in a nutshell) MORGAL (mixing Black and Speed Metal together, in a very nice and catchy way actually)

Two of them (Vargrav and White Rune I added to a playlist and have been listening to. The third one I’ll have to start listening to on YouTube for starting off. I quite like White Rune out of this lot so far, am listening to the newest album. These all feel quite different from Havukruunu as well as some other Finnish black metal I’ve heard, which surprised me a bit. I was expecting more familiar sounds. Very cool.

I just saw a couple of articles published showing that Cirith Ungol are retiring from live performances sometime in 2024 and are booking shows and inviting bookers for final shows in 2024! I hope it doesn't mean we won't ever receive another album in the future, but at the same time, they've had a remarkable career at least in terms of quality music that they've released and I am happy for them. This new album so far from what I've heard of it sounds INCREDIBLE. I can't wait to hear all of it!

Yeah, that new album doesn't sound like a band that has run out of steam. But touring is a whole other matter. It takes a toll.
