Just a “post whatever you want regarding music” kind of thread. Anything goes here.

I kinda wonder if anyone else on here likes Between the Buried and Me. Or if anyone hates them as well. Given their connection to a broad variety of scenes both Metal and hardcore, I’m not surprised if people don’t like them on here. But they recently released Colors II, and I really dig the album, as I did with the first Colors album way back in 2007 (I think that was the year), as well as the albums Alaska and The Great Misdirect.
As a whole, I just see this as a progressive metal band who’ve really got their shit together and a ton of talent.

Keeping this short this time... Finnish Heavy/Power Metallers RENEGADE ANGEL just released a new single titled "Damnation", featuring Tim "Ripper" Owens as a guest vocalist.

This feels like a more granular version of The Pub, but what the hell, I got plenty of thoughts on music to piss people off with.
I'll start simple: I don't get why people like Arghosolent so much. Even getting past the fact they're racist fuckwads, their songwriting relies entirely on tossing a billion riffs at the wall without much regard for how they go together, and while some of them are good, most of them sound like watered down versions of better bands like Saxon or Running Wild. The fact people consider this fundamentally boring band one of the greats of Melodic Death Metal makes me wonder what people even value in music.

I have always found them to be the epitome of "meh"...lol

That new Trivium album has a great cover art! Sadly, the album doesn’t match its greatness at all. I sampled some of the album with hopes of Trivium getting more interesting over the years, but what I heard was bordering on nü-metal. Gross.

Got to fully admit, I can be fully swayed into a purchase by great cover art. Back before all this technology and you kids with your google machines and interwebs, it is all you had to go on at the record store....lol

That cover art I still look at sometimes. To be fair, after seeing Banger TV’s review of that Trivium album, it’s not so much of a nü metal sound afterall. I think the track heard was an exception. With that said, I’m still not that interested in the album. But yes, before I had a smartphone and easy internet access I was a teenager buying anything that looked cool in the metal section and also anything listed in the liner notes where band members make their band shoutouts. Those two elements were big motivators for me to purchase metal by bands I didn’t know.

To continue from this topic on a little bit, I remember making lots of blind purchases when I was a kid regarding both cassettes and vinyls, mostly based on some cool looking album covers + also evil song titles, how some guys dressed up on the promo pics of those albums, etc. The more spikes, rivets and leather they wore - the better, of course (read: Judas Priest and Slayer).

Anyone ever listened to a band a few times and wrote them off as being just way over-hyped and no good...and then you for whatever reason are hearing it way later and you realize you were just dead wrong about them? I'm sure most of us have those moments. I'm certainly having one right now. Blood Incantation are wildly popular as a Death metal band. I think the long song-lengths sent me into a rage in the past because I never had the patience for Death metal with song lengths above 5.5 minutes usually. This band has a lot of great stuff going on in their music, actually. I'm more clear now than before, and I'm glad that my Apple Music took me their by random after finishing listening to the new Worm album. hahaha

Their early stuff, anyway.

Their early stuff, anyway. Oh wow, yeah! My first time hearing Slayer was after I picked up their Reign in Blood album. And I picked it up because it was frequently referenced by publications as a Thrash masterpiece. And despite that status, I had absolutely no reaction to it the first time and didn’t listen again until 5 years or more later. Now I love it. Venom and I had a similar story for sure, though I don’t love Venom as much as Slayer. To a greater effect I had this experience with Megadeth. I hated Megadeth for soooooo long and for no good reason. I guess slightly because my first experience with them was their live performance on WCW Nitro when I was in 4th grade, where they performed that humorously lousy “Crush ‘Em” live. I liked it back then, but then I didn’t know anything else so I checked them out and hated. Now I love those first few albums.

A lot of times I need to listen to something a few times, before it clicks.
For me most notably the entire genre of Death Metal

I just learned today that Funeral Mist just released an album (around December 17th if memory is correct) and it just pisses me off when bands of quality release stuff at the end of the year. And there was no buzz I saw to catch the release.
I am a big fan of Funeral Mist, especially as I love their vocalist. His effort with Marduk’s Werewolf album were what made that album worth hearing, as the actual content wasn’t that good frankly. His vocal inflections and timbre is just special to me. Hoping this record won’t let me down, as Hekatomb was incredible.
