Battleroar- To Death and Beyond... Okay, I’d never heard this band until tonight. Holy shit! This is epic! The closer is so badass that it might be the best thing I’ve heard all year. I can’t stop thinking about it. Haha! I only checked the band out on my own due to having listened to the Sangreal album from 2018 that seems to have little to no buzz for a while. I linked Sangreal to Doomsword due to Sangreal’s singer being the singer on the self titled Doomsword album. He’s an incredible singer and I saw he also sang for Battleroar so I thought I’d try to hear him in Battleroar. I didn’t realize he never recorded an album with Battleroar until after I started listening to this album, but it doesn’t matter because this album is just badass. Wow. Oh man - you had really not heard this? It IS an amazingly great album, one of my top favourites ever.
It is such an shame that this line-up dissolved after To Death and Beyond. (not that the next albums are bad - but this is just soo good.)
>>Sangreal’s singer being the singer on the self titled Doomsword album. Oh? Perhaps I should give Sangreal a listen then.
Yep, Nightcomer (vocalist on the first Doomsword album) is the singer for Sangreal, and he sounds fantastic on that Sangreal album. The true highlight, although the guitar solos are really well done and everything else is too. I also have to check out Doomsword more, as I have only listened to one album, and it wasn't the one with Nightcomer. My first Doomsword listening was Resound the Horn. Anyway, yeah, absolutely I'm really enjoying this Battleroar discovery.

Warrior Path - The Mad King
Straight-up metal with the return of Daniel Heiman on vocals.
So good to hear Heiman again.

Long time no post. Had not noticed that the forum moved again. Anyway, friday is new release day and I am really coming to enjoy the following:
Baest - Necro Sapiens. Sounds like a mix of Bloodbath and Morbid Angel.
Mork - Katedralen. Kampfar meets Darkthrone. Great fucking black metal.
Warrior Path - The Mad King. Daniel Heiman!!!

Perhaps inspired by my Bathory discography run, now I have this burning itch to do one for Iron Maiden, especially being I stopped listening after Seventh Son. And although I knew some songs from it anyway, I never listened through Number of the Beast before. I fixed that this morning with my morning playlist.
Iron Maiden- Iron Maiden I love the Paul era. This album really does it for me. Not too long, and the instrumental track has some absolutely juicy guitar work in it. Great album, only hindered for me by a few lame lyrics in a couple of places and some less than choice vocal lines on a song or two. Minor flaws for me though.
Iron Maiden- Killers This has long been my favorite album of theirs. Probably going to be challenged by the follow up now that I’ve heard it, but Killers is one top-notch record in my book.
Iron Maiden- Number of the Beast Yeah, I knew a few of these songs from video games I played (the title track alone was featured in two or three games I played many years ago), as well as from some dvd compilations and whatnot. But now I’m hearing this record through, it doesn’t surprise me at all the number of people who are calling it their favorite Maiden album. I feel I know it all very well already and today was my first true playthrough. My favorite Maiden song is “Alexander the Great,” but the album from which it came is not as good as this one for me. Furthermore, the ending track of Number being “Hallowed Be thy Name” is actually very similar to Alexander in some ways, but without the lame attempt at being proggy and free-form in the middle, maybe knocking “Alexander the Great” off the top of my list now. Haha

Warrior Path - The Mad King. Daniel Heiman!!!
Perhaps I should give Warrior Path some attention, it sound like it could be something for me. (I have had the debut languishing in my BC wishlist for ages for some reason.)
Who are this Daniel Heiman - is he somebody I should have known about? (Have checked his past projects, don't think I have heard any of it.)

You never heard Lost Horizon before? If so, do yourself a favor and go listen to them. Heiman is their singer.

They were the "talk of the town" when their debut came out.

Don't think I was in "town" back then - before I really discovered the internet as the goldmine of metal info it is today.

Iron Maiden- Piece of Mind Man, I used to think this one was just so-so, but now coming back to it I feel it has grown on me a bit. I still won't rate it as high as the first three albums, but it's a great one. I don't know if anyone would call it a standout track, but for some reason I love "Die with Your Boots On." Something about it just really sticks with me. Other than that, I will also add that for my tastes, the closing track is the biggest stinker on the album, and really brings the experience down for me big time, especially when you compare it with other Maiden closing tracks, which almost all slay. This one's closer, however, is just a bit too unmemorable for me.
Iron Maiden- Powerslave I'm sure I'll upset someone with this, but I really don't like this album. I was listening to it last night for probably the 15th time in my life and it put me to sleep. It sucks because my true favorite Maiden song is the opener, "Aces High." If everything else on the album was compact and packed as much punch as that one did, this would easily be my favorite album. There's just way too much drawn out boring moments on this one for my tastes. I know for some, it's the best album they did, but it seems I'll never understand why.

For me, Powerslave has the perfect mix of straight up Maiden rockers (“Aces High”, “Two Minutes to Midnight”, “Flash of the Blade”) on side one and more epic stuff (“Powerslave”, “Rime of the Ancient Mariner”) on side two. The only track I would lose is “Losfer Words”. I love all of the first five records for differentiations reasons.

Because I fell asleep and missed some last night I reviewed the album some more today. This time I did so while watching the lyrics. This experience led to me gaining appreciation for the title track for the first time. And I much more appreciate the closer than ever before too, since I now know the Mariner’s story more carefully, giving it more meaning. While this still isn’t in my top 3 albums of Maiden, I appreciate it much more, and I agree that “Loster Words” is nothing worth writing home about. Haha
