Warrior Path-The Mad King Oh hey, the album everyone says is great is, in fact, great. Who would have thought?
Elder-Reflections of a Floating World You know, on paper a band leaning more on Prog with each release pisses me off, but somehow Elder did it and became one of my favorite bands because of it. Go figure.

Vulture- Dealin’ Death I’m a huge fan of this band, so I knew I had to get this as soon as it released. I’m finishing my first playthrough and I can’t shake this feeling that it is a large disappointment record. On the one hand, it’s Vulture; they do everything well in my opinion. On the other, these songs lack the reckless energy that made their previous releases so exciting with a touch of danger. The second half of the record stood out more to me, and still, it’s not a bad record on first listen. It just isn’t what I’ve come to expect. Even the guitar solos are weak when compared to other releases, as well as much less frequent.

Lots of Doomsword and Mercyful Fate lately. (MF has been re-confirmed to the twice postponed CopenHell festival, so seems I will get my chance to see them after all.
And continuing my DM journey.
Have come to appreciate Obituary a lot (Based on the tow newest albums, which are on BC) and Bolt Thrower & Memoriam has started to grow on me as well.
Also discovering a few local bands, latest is Wayward Dawn, who play somewhat slow & heavy dm - which is my kind of death metal.

As for your death metal journey, I’m pretty happy to hear you’ve gotten into Obituary. My favorite albums are Slowly we Rot and Cause of Death, but I must say that the first two tracks on their 2017 self titled album are among the best songs in their catalogue. Those tracks were insane. You like the slower stuff, eh? Did you ever hear The Rack by Asphyx? I love that album.

That being said, it still just isn’t the kick in the pants that their previous albums were. This just feels too tame in comparison. “Gorgon” is a cool track which changes the vibe up in a cool traditional heavy metal kind of way, but that track seems to go on forever. Needs more spice.

Asphyx: I only have Necroceros - they are on Century Media, so no bandcamp unfortunately. Will get around the the rest eventually. Perhaps. CD only labels are a nuisance.
Same with the older Obiturary - have to chase up the CDs, perhaps I will add them to my wishlists for birthday.

Thanks man.
Currently playing:
Thyfing: Hels Vite Not a Thyrfing fan as such, but this records just push the right buttons with me.
Toledo Steel: No Quarter: Had forgotten how much this band are. Good, no frills heavy metal, which is sometimes just the thing.

Keeping to the theme of bands starting with "T"...
Twilight of the Gods: Fire on the Mountain
A "super-group" that I would not mind seeing a second album from, like this a lot.

And now Tygers of Pan Tang: Hellbound, Spellbound live in '81
One of the better live albums.

Kade Storm-Ascension Perfectly solid Blackened Doom. I have said all there is to it.
Svartidauði-Revelations of the Red Sword Seems Iceland has formed a formidable Black Metal scene in recent years. If this is anything to go off of, it's a lot like the French scene of the 2000s if it leaned more on the aggressive, technical side a la Deathspell Omega. Pretty cool.

Funny I found this rare 1987 Necromancer (Finnish Thrash) rehearsal from YouTube (it's just lacking one song). If it's not on YouTube, it should not be anywhere else either, I guess.

Cross Vault- As Strangers We Depart Never heard of this Doom Metal band until two days ago. Just started listening to this new album on Apple Music and it is quite nice. Not very riff-heavy, which kinda goes against my Metal preferences, but on the contrary, the band words really, really well within their style, which operates on rhythmically placed harmonies and a passionate vocal delivery. A more modern Doom feel, more related to Pallbearer than Candlemass, with a vocalist who possesses a healthy amount of grit in his voice when he goes deep and strong, reminding me a little of the vocalist of Terminus quite a bit at times. I don't know the release super well yet, but I'm already enjoying it a lot. Been a while since I found a newly released Doom album to connect with, so this is nice.
Antioch- V I had the previous album, which feels surprisingly different from this one in my opinion. These songs are a bit longer and the vocals are a bit more varied this time around. The first two times I listened through this I couldn't hear it very well due to all the noise pollution and the sounding qualities of this record not bright enough to persist amidst all the noise. However, I quite enjoy the energy here. The more shrill, high pitched screeches of the vocalist somewhat remind me of 3 Inches of Blood in their earlier releases, which is a big plus for me. I always loved that shit. Cool EP here, nice and long, too. Some kinda rock-anthem vibes on a track or two, but I don't mind. It's good.
