The Blood of Christ-The Lonely Flowers of Autumn/Frozen Dreams
Reissue of the early demos of a Canadian Death/Doom band I never heard of. Pretty cool, though the latter demo is more Death Metal than anything.
Sweet Release-Relentless
Wow, an album Geoff Tate sings on that not only doesn't suck, but features Tate doing something besides embarrassing himself. Color me shocked.

Fulci- Exhumed Information Man, this one is something else. 10 tracks of brutal death metal, but then wait... the first 6 tracks are excellent and then the last 4 are...instrumental and not even really instrumental? It’s like they wanted to do some dubsteppy thing. The tracking does label those last four tracks as “Fulci & TV-CRIMES.” After hearing the first few tracks I was like “damn, I gotta review this banger.” And then I got to those tracks at the end and was confused by it. Great riffs, great grooves, beautifully crunchy sound. But damn, how does one go about reviewing such an experiment considering the ending?! If you cut it at track 6, this is an excellent EP. Perhaps it should be treated as such.

Gloryhammer- Legends from Beyond the Galactic Terrorvortex (2019) Lol what a name for an album. Thematically it is also quite funny in a way, while somehow managing a somewhat serious theme. Really enjoyable power metal album with surprisingly catchy songwriting and great vocals. There are some songs here that I just can’t get out of my head and are keeping me up at night.
Wizardthrone- Hypercube Necrodimensions(2021) This just came out on Apple Music and was what exposed me to Gloryhammer, actually, as a member here is in Gloryhammer. This here is symphonic death Metal with blackened touches. Really interesting writing that occasionally has this narration thing going on in a way not unlike Bal-Sagoth. Musically it may be a little comparable to them as well. Interesting listen for sure. The cleanness of the album is a little bit of a put off for me though. I prefer less silky production.

Caught a tube vid with an opera coach reaction vid on a Rainbow tune. Gave me a craving for some Dio.
Dio: Last in Line Dio: Holy Diver Rainbow: Compilation (Actually don't have any of the Rainbow albums. Think I will have to do something about that.)

Dio: Last in Line Dio: Holy Diver Rainbow: Compilation (Actually don't have any of the Rainbow albums. Think I will have to do something about that.) Rising and Long Live Rock and Roll are classics of hard rock/heavy metal. There is some good stuff on the debut but it's not as consistently good as these two.

Cheers, Rainbow Rising is probably my favourite of the 3 - the vinyl is now on my wishlist. (Birthday is coming up in a couple of months, so perhaps..)
Just saw that Arkham Witch have completed their next album. They are a long time favourite of mine, so have heard a bit in celebration
Arkham Witch: On Crom's Mountain Arkham Witch: Legions of the Deep

Matterhorn-Crass Cleaning Solid old-school Thrash (They call themselves Death/Speed, but I've yet to hear an agreeable definition of what Speed actually is)
Funereal-The Misery Season Killer Death/Doom from a band that only ever released this (and some demos in the 90s as Contagion)

I've really fallen into a listening routine which is both pleasing and a bit disappointing in that I don't feel much sense of direction as to what I want to really listen to next. I'm kinda just stuck on these Christopher Bowes projects, which with more and more listening time start to feel so similar, despite the high entertainment value. Either way: Gloryhammer- All three albums for review and storyline fetching purposes. I'm really sold on this stuff, and I do hope there will be another, as the storyline doesn't 100% conclude with Zargothrax's last move, but on the other hand it might be over due to the fate of the main hero Angus. Not sure, but I see room for more development, although the story doesn't really need it. I just want more Gloryhammer. haha Wizardthrone- Hypercube Necrodimensions Now approaching nearly 10 rotations. To say it sounds like Bal-Sagoth is popular, but I don't really think so. It just has elements of Bal-Sagoth. Also, the more I listen to it the more it just feels like an extreme metal version of Gloryhammer, which is fine since Mr. Bowes also is the mastermind behind this one, but the story is a bit more complex here and needs some reading time to digest, also most likely due to the fact that the vocals are not clean singing here like with Gloryhammer. Perdition Temple- Sacraments of Descension Oh yeah, thanks for pointing me towards them, luxi. Great Death Metal here that isn't too frilly, and also far from plain. The lineage to Angelcorpse is obvious, and that is certainly a good thing for me. So many great riffs to write home about on this album! Craven Idol- Forked Tongues Yeah, it's good. But I still feel, like with the previous album, that they're missing something, and I can't put my finger on it, despite some people feeling it's super good. I'm more of a 3.75 on this one, even though it's solid for what it is. I just don't feel it has any secret sauce...

Kryptik Mutation-Pulled from the Pit One of the better Death Metal albums I've heard recently.
Kreator-Pleasure to Kill I dunno, it's undoubtedly influential and fun while it's on, but it still leaves me lukewarm overall.
Scanner-Hypertrace LOCKED OUT! wail that breaks the sound barrier

Hellcrash- Krvcifix Invertör After seeing it reviewed here, I had to hear it. Is it possible for a vocalist to sound more like Cronos than this guy here? He sounds just like him, even in vocal inflections. Some might give them a strike for copying, but I think it’s really cool! Cronos had a special sound. Band totally sounds like Venom, and I love it. The mixing and everything is raw and evokes that early Venom feeling. Songs here kick ass. I just think the song lengths are a little more than needed. But it’s okay, super fun to listen to.

Paranorm-Paranorm Basically if Skeletonwitch got a little proggy. Pretty cool.
Seasons of the Wolf-Once in a Blue Moon Seems they have a new single coming out soon, so dug this one up in preparation. Amazing how they can sound retro and fresh at the same time.
Pharaoh-The Powers That Be Seems they've stripped down their sound and tried to make it a bit harsher. Damn solid stuff, one of the year's best, but a few steps down from Bury the Light.
