I'm pretty much only listening to the whole 1914 catalogue lately. I was starting a review for the new album, and then I realized that I hadn't heard the first full-length nor the releases between albums. I love what this band is doing. And today they posted quite a lot on their Facebook for Remembrance Day, which was quite meaningful. Love getting my history lessons through their music. The newest album is probably their least most doomy, but still has some doom, and is a great, emotional ride.

Been so busy that I’ve not been listening to music much lately, but these are the albums I’ve been going to over the past few days:
1914- Where Fear and Weapons Meet Yes, more of this. May end up an album of the year contender for me. I’m halfway done with my review and rationale.
Sulphurous- The Black Mouth of Sepulchre New album by a death metal band I liked. This album just doesn’t accomplish anything worth hearing, sadly. They’re great musicians, but this does not shine at all.
Vomit Bag Squad- Tales from the Bag Luxi’s review was the item that tipped me off to this one. First listen didn’t do much for me, 3rd listen was a lot of fun. I’m not sure I value it as much as my friend Luxi, but I’m glad to have it in my playlist.
Black Soul Horde- Horrors from the Void One of those trad heavy metal albums that screams quality from first moment listening. Some dull passages exist within, but it’s very solid heavy metal nonetheless.
Ultra Raptor- Tyrants Very glad to have seen MetalMike’s review of this this morning. I put it on my Apple Music list and just now finished listening through it on the subway trips. Super fun!
Der Weg Einer Freiheit- Noktvrn Currently only on track 3 of my first listen, but I’ve always thought this band was of high quality in the atmospheric black metal world.

Tygers of Pan Tang: Hellbound, Spellbound
I am not a huge fan of live albums, but some of the best, just makes you go "Damn, I wish had been there". This is one of the greats.
Not that there was any chance in hell, that my parents would have let me travel to Nottingham at the age of 9, even had I wanted to. Anyway, the point is moot, I was still a few years away from discovering music in a serious way, not to mention metal & rock, at that point.

Morgul Blade- Fell Sorcery Abounds Wow, this is a tasty heavy metal album with a few twists and turns. Give this one a listen if you haven’t heard of it!
Count Raven- The Sixth Storm My first CR album, but I am enjoying it so far. A bit of a Black Sabbath vibe on it, especially riff and vocal-wise. Only halfway through, but so far I know I’m going to be coming back to it after I finish it.

After writing my review for 1914’s latest album, I’ve admittedly felt a bit lost and unsure what to listen to. Partly because I’ve been incredibly busy for a few weeks lately. However, I’ve been slightly in the mood for hearing this singer rip, and have listened to two albums he has sung on, which are: Blacksword- Alive Again I recall a review on here which praised it but also criticized it a little for songwriting. Personally I like the songwriting, although I can somewhat understand the perspective. I think what draws me to this album is my love for powerhouse heavy metal vocalists who can belt it out like Priest and WASP in their glory days combined with heavy production on a heavy metal record. I love this record.
Silent Winter- Empire of Sins Same singer, different sound for the band. This one is a sleeper hit, mixing more of a European power metal vibe in, so it hits less hard as Blacksword, but still possesses great power and probably better songwriting, albeit also less explosive and fun.

That would be me. I didn't dislike the songwriting, just found it a little repetitive, that's all
OT Mega Colossus - Riptime Reminds me of Walpyrgus
Blackhearth - The Wrath of God I liked their last one but this one isn't hitting me as hard, slower and more menacing but less exciting

Just binging some of my favorite albums from the year.
Lucifer’s Fall- III- From the Deep What a grower of an album. Every listen is better than the last. I’m about to have my own guitar and my first mission will be to learn this album. I love the guitars on this album. But also, the vocals and lyrics are equally compelling. No problem at all naming this my album of the year.
Reinforcer- Prince of the Tribes It had been a while since I last heard this one. It still grows on me. That’s wild, especially how much I played this record around the time I reviewed it.
Silent Winter- Empire of Sins This shall likely be my next review. Great vocals, great power metal tunes, and only one cheesy lyric, found in “mirror mirror on the wall...” aside from that sad eye roll, what a great album!

Këkht Aräkh- Pale Swordsman (Black Metal, 2021) So I told a friend that the new Havukruunu was my favorite black metal pick for 2021 (duh, I think everything they do is magic!) and he asked me “Have you listened to Pale Swordsman?” I took the guy seriously and found this album of which I’ve not heard only to find he was testing to see how much I’ve heard and that he hadn’t heard it either. Nonetheless, it has a few very positive reviews online so I thought I’d give it a try regardless. Love that album name, afterall. This album feels a lot like a more experimental take on Transylvanian Hunger, honestly. Has that same lo-fi shitty sound that awards a unique charm, similar drum patterns, similar mixing. To a degree, the songs sound familiar with the aforementioned album. But there’s a non-distorted melodic/harmonic line that exists within the mess that perhaps is not so different from what Inquisition do. While I don’t like this as much as Inquisition, it’s a cool listen.
