Welp, I have done it. Through sheer accident and misfortune, I have found what may be the worst god damn thing that has ever happened to music. Go ahead, listen to it. I dare you all. What in the name of all that is unholy is this festering pile of garbage? It is nothing more than noise. I hate you for daring me to listen. Sonic terrorism.

What do people general feel about Steel Panther? I barely know their music but those dudes should probably make a movie in the vein of Spinal Tap because they’re funny guys sometimes. Their vocalist is actually really impressive, most noticeable in their silly YouTube videos like the one where they do that stupid song called “Weenie Ride.” Haha I actually thought they were some kind of joke band, so I never checked them out.

I checked a few of their music videos from their actual albums and they are just a bit too light for my tastes, but they’re good at what they do. They definitely seem more a joke band than anything. But lately they are dominating my YouTube feed since I keep watching their interviews and other videos where they just fuck around. Haha, watching the guitarist playing his favorite riffs on a Hello Kitty guitar on the Loudwire channel was fun. He told a story about Tony Iommi regarding how he cut his finger, but he kinda got fictional in a funny way. Good guitar player, too.

I mean, probably no need to listen to their actual releases based on what I’ve heard unless you like hard rock and glam mashed together, but just for entertainment value, their interviews and other content on YouTube is often funny.

you like hard rock and glam mashed together Hmm... My formative metal years were in the 80'ies - so for me glam is what silver is to werewolves...

you like hard rock and glam mashed together Hmm... My formative metal years were in the 80'ies - so for me glam is what silver is to werewolves... Yep, Glam and Steel Panther are polarizing to say the least. I must say say, however, Glam Metal and some of the archetypes and its significance in the scene are all fantastically interesting topics to me, despite my distaste for the music. Reflecting on that documentary, A Headbanger's Journey or something (I'd do a proper search for the name but it seems my wifi scenario today doesn't allow me to search the sites...sometimes being in China can be a pity), I recall a very interesting discussion about Glam Metal in which a guy was discussing sexuality in Metal. In rationalizing the desire to put on women's clothes and wear makeup on stage, it was determined that it was seen as a manly thing to go on the stage like that, because no ordinary man would be brave enough to do that. What was a deeper dive I recalled from that interview which I really found an impressive connection was regarding gay musicians, especially on the topic of Rob Halford. If we are relating bravery with Metal, gay musicians are as metal as they come. That was an interesting topic. Not to go on such a wild tangent, but I just remembered that fascinating conversation from the documentary. Steel Panther are absolutely more for fun and laughs than they are for serious listening. But they are also quite impressive musicians, just not as evident on their full-lengths, as their full-lengths seem to be aimed at delivering a true Glam Metal sound, while their joke songs and other content that exists in various pockets of Youtube are what display their true talent and abilities, especially considering them as comedians on top of their roles as musicians. Hearing Satchel recount the fictional story of how Tony Iommi cut his fingers of while cutting a bagel and the continued conversation after that was hilarious.

I remember around 2000 when Halford released Resurrection, there were quite a few guys on message boards saying that when Halford came out of the closet, they got rid of all their Priest stuff. I was like, “really?”

I was like, “really?” It will always be funny how Rob Halford did everything in his power to be as actively gay as possible and there were so many dudes who didn't get it at all. The fuck did you think a leather daddy was, guys?

They should really make a world tour out of that. Texas is a bit far to go for a festival, but that must be one of the best line-ups in recent history.
